How Your Mindset Affects Your Income

Money is a driving force for many people. This can be an accumulation of wealth or eliminating debt. But some people struggle with the desire or the process of creating wealth.

The primary purpose behind creating a business is to make money. However, many people feel guilty about wanting to acquire wealth. Children are often taught that wealthy people are greedy. Since children grow up not wanting to be greedy, they have negative feelings about being wealthy.

A related fear is that if you have wealth, others have less. Therefore, you might feel guilty about having wealth because you feel as though you’re hurting others. But being wealthy doesn’t mean you’re greedy.

The United States has the strongest economy in the world with a GDP of 20.49 trillion. Additionally, 25% of the country’s currency in 2021 has been printed in the past year. This all means that there’s enough money to go around. So if you don’t need to feel guilty about accumulating wealth, how do you go about doing it?

Jaclyn DiGregorio (@jaclyn_gallo) is a business coach and says that a key to accumulating wealth is done through your mindset. A common misconception is that money makes you feel good. But it’s actually the opposite. Feeling good attracts money. This is something called the Law of Attraction.

The Law of Attraction says that like attracts like. Money is energy and humans vibrate at a certain frequency. When you turn your frequency to a certain level, money will come to you. The emotional guidance scale, created by Abraham Hicks, measures frequencies. He says that there are about 20 different levels, ranging from desperation and grief to joy. If you can create joy, you will attract more money.

However, considering that humans have 60,000 to 80,000 thoughts per day, changing your mindset can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there is a way to make this task less daunting.

The language we use has a major impact on our thought process. For this reason, changing our word choice can impact the way we think. This includes the words you use while speaking and writing.

Certain words have a negative impact on our thoughts. The primary negative word when it comes to money is “expensive.” However, expensive is relative to your amount of wealth. For example, something that’s expensive to you might not be to Bill Gates or Jeff Bezos.

But how do you eliminate the word from your vocabulary. Rather than saying that an item is expensive, use similar terms, such as luxury, premium, or high quality. You can also teach yourself to avoid buying these high-priced items by training your mind that you don’t desire them. Rather than saying something is expensive, say it’s “not for me.”

The important thing to remember when using these words is to consider how your body feels. Your mind can lie to you but your body can’t. Using terms like “too expensive” can create negative feelings, while saying “it’s not for me” will have a positive impact on you.

Another way to use positive words is through bridge statements. Instead of saying “I have debt,” you can say “I’ll be debt free soon.” This small change in speech creates a positive mindset and provides motivation to continue working toward a goal. Similarly, you can say you’re “in the process of” rather than saying you’re not where you want to be. This reminds you that you’re getting closer to achieving your goal.

While words can have a positive impact on money, actions do as well. If you’re looking to pay off debt, you can use the snowball method. Start by paying off the lowest amount of debt, regardless of the interest rate. This creates positivity as you start to pay off the larger amounts. Taking the time to celebrate the accomplishment of paying off a debt will also provide positivity as you continue to work toward being debt-free.

“Trust whatever desires are on your heart,” DiGregorio says. “They’re possible for you. God, the universe, is not teasing you. The desire was placed there because you are meant for it. So trust that, lean into that, keep taking action, keep believing in yourself, and make the best of wherever you are today.”
