Impact of Gratefulness on the Brain
Hey there!
I wanted to take a moment to sit and reflect on the one true thing that can create joy; gratefulness.
Every day, we have multiple things coming at us at all angles. Our brains are overstimulated with ideas, emotions, judgements, & knowledge. When we become overwhelmed, we tend to “forget” what is right in front of us. I always like to refer to this as tunnel vision.
Remember when you first started dating someone? It was new, fun, & energizing! You were openly aware and grateful for each moment because you weren’t used to it. Over time, you became “used to it” and started to expect the things you were getting.
Remember when you first got a job and were extremely excited about it? When the honeymoon period ended, you got complacent and expected every paycheck or your significant other to bring you that cup of coffee.
This week, I challenge you to bring back your awareness of the things right in front of you.
What might you be taking for granted?
When you practice gratefulness, you release feel-good neurotransmitters like serotonin and oxytocin which physically make you feel good. Isn’t that crazy? Something in our mind can physically make us feel better. This is a great blessing we can always cherish.
The key is to stop, slow down, and just be. Feel the great things that have happened to you and the wonderful people in your life that you can cherish.
Today, I am grateful for YOU that have supported me along my journey.
