The Power of Human Connection!
We have had more connection to the human race than ever before, but for some reason, more reports come out showing how much more alone we feel. The real question is, are we getting the “right” connect?
Is an email enough?
Is a like, or just simply seeing pictures, enough?
Are we actually feeling the connection through our phone or computer screen?
Growing research explains that connecting with humans is equally as important as food and shelter. UCLA Neuroscience Professor Matthew Lieberman explains that, “Being socially connected is our brain's lifelong passion.”
Humans were created to work in packs and we are not meant to do life alone. This is why teamwork is always better than one person working on a project. So many different perspectives and outlooks turns into a beautiful outcome if executed properly.
Do these sayings sound familiar?
“Two heads are better than one.”
“There’s no such thing as a self-made man (or woman).”
“Teamwork makes the dream work.”
Although we see this everywhere, I want you to take a different approach when you connect with others. The beauty of looking someone in the eye and asking, “How are you?”
I don’t mean a passing “How are you?” with a reply of “Good. How are you?”. I mean a true meaningful care to see how someone is doing.
I once had an employee who told me, “I don’t want to tell someone that I am good if I am not feeling good. I want to be honest.” Over time, people didn’t ask how he was doing because they didn’t want to hear about the struggles he was going through.
Imagine what could happen if someone is being ignored and they don’t feel like they are being seen. Do you feel like you’re being seen? Do you feel like you see others?
Whenever I come across someone who asks me honestly, “How are you doing?” it feels good. I know they care and I know I’m supported. Remember that if you give love and support, you will receive love and support in return. This holiday season, share the human connection and it will spread like wildfire.
